Pain - Words used in A Course in Miracles

The way is not hard, but it is very different. Yours is the way of pain, of which God knows nothing.    T-11.III.4:1,2.
The Holy Spirit will direct you only so as to avoid pain. ...You no more recognize what is painful than you know what is joyful, and are, in fact, very apt to confuse the two. The Holy Spirit's main function is to teach you to tell them apart. What is joyful to you is painful to the ego, and as long as you are in doubt about what you are, you will be confused about joy and pain.   T-7.X.3:1,4-6.
Your mind is the means by which you determine your own condition, because mind is the mechanism of decision. It is the power by which you separate or join, and experience pain or joy accordingly.   T-8.IV.5:7,8.
Tolerance for pain may be high, but it is not without limit. Eventually everyone begins to recognize, however dimly, that there must be a better way.   T-2.III.3:5,6.
Whenever you are with a brother, you are learning what you are because you are teaching what you are. He will respond either with pain or with joy, depending on which teacher you are following. He will be imprisoned or released according to your decision, and so will you.   T-8.III.5:8-10.
Every illusion carries pain and suffering in the dark folds of the heavy garments in which it hides its nothingness. ... hidden from the joy of truth.    T-22.II.1:5,6.
Pain demonstrates the body must be real. … Pain compels attention, drawing it away from Him and focusing upon itself. Its purpose is the same as pleasure, ... means to make the body real.    T-27.VI.1:1,3,4.
